Introduction

Tunisia, located in North Africa, has faced a complex history of political change. The 2010 Jasmine Revolution marked a turning point in the struggle for freedom, but it also led to economic challenges. While press freedoms have expanded, the role of Islam in public life has grown.

The country’s population of 13,000 Christians, less than 0.25% of the total, faces persecution from various quarters, particularly following the revolution. Church leaders have left due to threats, impacting evangelism and discipleship efforts. Despite these challenges, Christian media is making headway in Tunisia, contributing to the spread of the Gospel.

Pray for Christians being persecuted

Tunisia is ranked #36 on the 2023 World Watch List published by Open Doors.

Tunisia is 99% Muslim and Tunisian Christians, almost all of whom are from a Muslim background, are discriminated against by family and society.

In some cases, Christians are abandoned by their families and rejected by their friends. Their jobs may also be at risk. Most Christian converts cannot worship openly and choose to hide their faith since it is dangerous to share their beliefs. If they’re found to be part of a Christian gathering, they risk exposure and ostracism.

[God] has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.
